Process

How remittances work

Send

The sender visits a Western Union or Ria partner location anywhere in the world and initiates a transfer to Sudan. They receive a Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN).

Transfer

The funds move through the secure global network — Western Union or Ria's infrastructure, backed by BNMB's reliable agent connections — typically within minutes.

Receive

The recipient visits any BNMB branch with their ID and the MTCN. After a simple verification, they receive the funds in person and sign a receipt.

What you need to receive money

  • Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) from the sender's receipt (optional but recommended)
  • Sender's full name (first and last)
  • City and country from where the money was sent
  • Amount that was sent
  • Your full name, address, and telephone number
  • Valid government-issued photo ID

Important notes

  • Funds are paid out in Sudanese Pounds (SDG) or USD depending on corridor
  • Transactions are subject to Central Bank of Sudan regulations
  • BNMB ensures your transaction details remain fully confidential
